I recently visited the Horniman Museum in London with family and friends and had a lovely time. It’s a nice little museum with a great mix of exhibits, making it an enjoyable visit for all ages. While part of the museum was under construction, which was a bit disappointing, there was still plenty to see and do. The gardens and aquarium were particular highlights, and the atmosphere was welcoming.
Despite the temporary construction, we had a great experience and will definitely visit again once everything is fully open!

Dear Horniman Museum Team,
I am writing this complaint while sitting in your café, feeling deeply disappointed.
Horniman has been a very special place for me and my son. We have been visiting since his birth, and now, at 11 years old, he still loves coming here. Even after moving to Southwest London, we always find excuses to return.
However, today’s experience has been incredibly disheartening. After spending over £100 for our visit, we decided to dine at the café, only to be met with a series of issues.
The queue was long, which I understand can happen, but after placing our order, the staff forgot one of the items.
It took more than 30 minutes for our food to arrive. When it did, the chicken burger was disappointingly small, and the bun was completely dried out and cold.
There was no cutlery available except wooden spoons. When I asked a waitress, she informed me that the cutlery was in the dishwasher and would take time to dry. I asked if I should just wait while my food got even colder, and the response was indifferent. Eventually, she brought me three forks.
The children's pasta was inedible.

Visited for the Robot Zoo attraction in Feb half term. It was busy so definitely pre-book.
Interactive experience and lots to do for kids. The museum itself is always great to visit too and it’s a great way to spend an afternoon.

I do not recommend visiting this place in the weekend as is it too busy and there are mostly families with many young children who run and are being loud. I noticed that there is an emphasis on African culture, and there are many items from Africa. As the exhibition is called ‘World Gallery’, I expected to see more items and stories from different parts of the world. The staff made the experience a very tense one. I asked for directions as a tourist and I was explained well, but they seemed to police around, not to make this a nice experience for tourists.

Pretty disappointing trip during the February half term. Half of the museum was closed and most of the things that were left required payment to enter. The walrus is gone, practically the whole of the ground floor is shut. It’s like a mish mash of ethnic items and some musical instruments - it no longer feels worth the trip. Also couldn’t go into the conservatory but I think that was the case last time as well. I wouldn’t go again after this visit, it felt like a waste of our day.

I attended the Museum with my husband and our almost 3 year old son.
The Museum itself is currently having a refurb and some areas are closed to the public (inc. the famous Walrus), so sadly there was not much to look at in the areas that were free to look around.
We'd booked tickets for the Aquarium and The Robot Zoo exhibition. Being Half Term both were busy - should've expected it really but I thought being booked areas crowding would've been somewhat controlled.
The cafe served delicious cakes and coffee. We bought a picnic, so didn't try the sandwiches/meals on offer but looking around at items others were eating they did look tasty.
The gardens were nice to walk around, but I think may have looked nicer on a sunnier day.
I think I'll visit again once the Natural History displays and parts of the garden have completed their improvement works.
